Law enforcement costumers needed a case long enough to fit an M-16, but short enough to fit in a police cruiser. The 1720 pelican rifle case was introduced to do just that. This case can handle a variety of other rifles as well along with spare clips, ammo and cleaning accessories which makes it popular to the hunting sports market as well. The 1720 is sized to fit between the 1700 pelican rifle case and 1750 pelican rifle case.

Stainless steel-reinforced padlock protectors, folding handles and easy open Double-Throw latches are standard features. The Automatic Purge Valve equalizes changes in atmospheric pressure while keeping moisture out.

This case is NATO codified and tested to MIL C-4150J (Military Standard), IP-67 (Ingress Protection) and ATA (Air Transportation Association).
